From 16 to 23 August 2026, children from De Marillac Centre participated in the Red Cross Camp, an enriching week of learning, friendship, teamwork and personal development. The camp provided the children with an opportunity to step outside their usual environment, interact with other young people, acquire valuable life skills and participate in activities designed to promote confidence, responsibility and social development.
For children who have experienced difficult circumstances, opportunities such as this are particularly meaningful. At De Marillac Centre, we believe that rehabilitation goes beyond providing food, shelter and education. It also involves creating opportunities for children to discover their abilities, develop positive relationships and build the confidence they need to look forward to a brighter future.

A Week of Learning and Discovery
The Red Cross Camp offered the children a combination of educational, recreational and social activities. Throughout the week, the participants had opportunities to learn, share experiences, work together and take part in activities that encouraged discipline, cooperation and leadership.
The camp environment also encouraged the children to become more independent and responsible. Through interaction with their peers and participation in group activities, they were able to strengthen important values such as respect, teamwork, kindness, communication and consideration for others.
These lessons are important in helping children develop the skills they need not only in school but also in their relationships with family, friends and the wider community.
Building Confidence Through Participation
One of the important benefits of the camp was the opportunity it provided for the children to participate actively rather than simply observe. Group activities, games, discussions and other camp experiences encouraged them to express themselves, work with others and take on responsibilities.
Participation in such activities can help children develop greater self-confidence and a stronger sense of belonging. It also gives them the opportunity to recognise their individual strengths while appreciating the abilities and experiences of others.
For the children of De Marillac Centre, the camp was therefore more than a recreational outing. It was an opportunity for personal growth and positive social interaction.

Learning About Health, Safety and Responsibility
The Red Cross is widely associated with humanitarian service, emergency response, first aid, health awareness and community support. Participation in a camp organised around these values provided an important opportunity for the children to learn about caring for themselves and others.
Through the camp experience, the children were encouraged to appreciate the importance of safety, responsibility, cooperation and helping others. These are essential values that can contribute to the development of responsible and compassionate young people.
The lessons gained from such experiences can remain with children long after the camp has ended.
Friendship and Teamwork

Another memorable aspect of the Red Cross Camp was the opportunity for the children to make new friends and interact with other participants.
Living and participating in activities alongside other children encourages young people to understand differences, communicate effectively and work together towards common goals. Through teamwork, the children experienced the importance of supporting one another and celebrating each other’s contributions.
For children from vulnerable backgrounds, positive relationships and a sense of belonging can play an important role in their emotional and social development.
Creating Positive Childhood Experiences
Every child deserves the opportunity to experience happiness, friendship, learning and recreation in a safe and supportive environment. Positive childhood experiences can help children develop resilience and a healthier outlook towards their future.
The Red Cross Camp gave the children of De Marillac Centre a memorable experience filled with activities, interaction and new discoveries. It also reminded us that supporting vulnerable children requires creating opportunities for them to experience life beyond the challenges they may have faced.
At De Marillac Centre, we remain committed to providing holistic care that addresses the educational, emotional, social, physical and developmental needs of the children entrusted to our care.

A Memorable Experience for De Marillac Children
As the camp came to an end on 23 August 2026, the children returned with memories of a meaningful week and experiences that can contribute to their continued growth and development.
We sincerely appreciate the Red Cross and everyone who contributed to organising and supporting the camp and making it possible for our children to participate. Experiences such as this demonstrate the importance of partnerships and collective efforts in creating better opportunities for vulnerable children.
The participation of De Marillac children in the Red Cross Camp is another reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, participate, make friends, discover their potential and dream of a better future.
