
The management, staff, and children at De Marillac Centre were very pleased to receive His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi at the special event of his visit to De Marillac Centre Port Harcourt.
Peter Obi is a native of Agulu town, Aniocha local government of Anambra State, Nigeria. A prominent politician, businessman and Philanthropist, best known for his role as the Governor of Anambra State visited De Marillac on the 13th of March, 2024 after hearing about the impact of the Centre in society building, helping to reduce the number of street Children living in the city of Port Harcourt and also the numerous work the Daughters of Charity are doing in the region.
Before entering politics, Obi was a successful businessman and served as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria. He is also known for his advocacy of transparency and accountability in governance.

One notable attribute of Obi is his compassion for the less privilege and vulnerable people in society.
Well recognized for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. His commitment to philanthropy is closely tied to his belief in social responsibility and giving back to the community.
Peter Obi’s philanthropic work is often driven by his values and his belief in the importance of making a positive impact on society. His efforts have contributed to his reputation as a leader who cares deeply about the welfare of his fellow Nigerians.
During his time at the Centre, he had some time to discuss with the management, highlighting the aim of his visit, which is aimed at reaching out to the poor, and also collaborating with the different communities of the daughters of Charity to achieve this.
He also had some time to chat with the Children and encouraged them to be focused, diligent, and hard-working, that way they could achieve their dreams, build their existence, and become agents of positive change to the nation and society at large.
He also spoke about the needs of the children. He stated that further actions would be taken to draw the attention of well-meaning Nigerians to support the work, which he believed is part of his contribution to Nation-building.
Other activities that took place during the visit were the presentation of gifts, a Cultural display by De Marillac Children, and finally a group photograph with the Sisters, the children and the staff of the Centre.
